The first two days of September I was in Fairbanks for work and had the best weather to enjoy it with. The highs were in the high 70s, and the fall colors were starting to come out. After work the first day, I headed down to Creamer's Field to see how many of their sandhill cranes were hanging out in the field. Unfortunately, only a few cranes were there - being overtaken mostly by geese - but the view was still great, especially with all the sunshine!
That night, I woke up around 1:30 a.m. (the hotel was super hot), and got to watch the Northern Lights from my hotel balcony - in my pajamas, because it was so warm out still (upper 40s)! Below is a photo I took in the middle of Fairbanks of them, with a special Northern Lights iPhone app.
It was a great trip with wonderful weather - I sure lucked out!
