After our
Gobbo Outer Banks family reunion, Andrew and I drove back up to my sister’s in Yorktown, Virginia. We spent some great days visiting with her family while they settled into their new home.
I got to show Andrew historic Yorktown Monday. It was neat showing him the area I grew up visiting many times on family trips and school field trips.

Later that day we also stopped by the town I grew up in, Poquoson.
The next day we drove up to D.C. to do some brief sightseeing. We stayed in Crystal City and took the metro into D.C. Once in the city we briefly checked out the Smithsonian’s Air and Space Museum. Then we walked in the heat to the base of the pool in front of the U.S. Capitol.

We then walked around the National Mall, with many water and shades stops (it was HOT!), to the Washington Monument and then to the Smithsonian Castle.
We took many photos on the walk of all the places we want to stop on our next visit!

After watching a crazy three-car accident at the gates of the Smithsonian Castle, we walked back to the metro station - just in time for the 5 o’clock crowds leaving the city! Thankfully it was only super crowded for one leg of the trip. After a walk to Jimmy John’s (another restaurant we don’t have in Alaska), we headed back to the hotel for a much needed rest before we headed home to Alaska the next day!

It was a long and hot trip, but it was so great seeing and spending so much time with my family!
